Are ya crafty? Have a website?

topic posted Tue, May 3, 2005 - 7:14 AM by  Samantha
Hey Mamas, I was just wondering what everyone's hobbies are and if you do any crafts. I make patchwork clothes. I also do a bit of embroidery and am learning to bead. I'd also like to learn how to knit or crochet at some point.
I have a website, its www.moontimemountain.com
My signature style is Fractal skirts and dresses. I have an auction going right now for a custom skirt:
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

Anyway I'd love to hear about everyone else's creative interests and outlets!!!
hugs

ironically i have been in the market for a few new skirts/dresses - didn't realize you are in the business! do you do custom? i looked quickly at your website but will give it a more thorough read-over later... i have an idea of what i want but pre-mades rarely fit my curves right so custom would be best. :)

anyway, hope you are enjoying tour!

i love craftwork but it;s not my fulltime gig unfortunately. I do knit and crochet, though i find knitting to be very tedious and probably won't ever get to a point where i am knitting anything larger than a potholder any time soon. =) i like crocheting, but only know the basics at this point. i am *hoping* to take a jewelry-making class this summer at a local craft education centre (uber-cool, check it out: www.petersvalley.org) and have done limited macrame/hemp... no website, its not really my full time focus. is sewing your main job? i am a free-lance musician and teacher... it's pretty flexible while still being a bit structured, which is good for me... i *love* not haivng to answer to anyone!

Oh yeah I love to do custom work and most of my premade stuff is made for larger mamas like me, but I can make any size. Right now its my only job. It takes me a really long time to make things because I just have a regular machine and not a serger, but my work is sturdy and machine washable.
That Peter's Valley place seems really cool. Some day I'd like to learn pottery, beading, and batik, among other things. I know a girl who does these awesome batiks that are done in some sort of european style with lots of different colours, not just the two-tone stuff. I hope to master that art some day. I've dabbled in making candles too but that was just for fun.
I'd like to learn to knit and crochet too. I have a friend that can crochet really fast, she doesn't even have to be looking down at it. Blows my mind.
Apologies if you've said this before, but what do you teach? I admire anyone with that kind of patience. I saw this program the other day about former child stars, and what they did with their lives, and at least three of them became teachers. I thought that was really cool.

the other day i was on ebay looking to see if there were hippie threads to be found and i came across the auction for a custom made skirt, and almost bid on it, but Ebay kept telling me the item was restricted or something (i think it has something to do with my security settings on my PC being screwed up, it seemed to be working the next day). I went back and looked at the auction after i read that you had one going- and it was the same one, haha. small world. :)

i will message you to your tribe mailbox with my contact info - i owuld love to talk about having a piece or two made... but since this is a public forum i'd rather bring the discussion elsewhere.

peter's valley is really pretty amazing. i had the good fortune of landing a summer job there several years back and getting to work in an environment of artists all summer. i recently moved back to the same area and tried to set something up to work there this summer, but it didnt work out... so i decided to be a studetn instead :) I havent decided which workshop i am taking, but since i was good buddies with the registrar when i worked there, i managed to snag a work-exchange so I don't have to spend all the money to take the class. WOO-HOO. I am looking at sculpture classes right now, and am pretty stoked. i have wanted to take a class there ever since i worked there 6 years ago, and it is just FINALLY happening now. yay. if you ever get the opportunity to get away and take a class, i highly recommend PV,... it is so beautiful and peaceful and they really do get high-quality instructors. It can be a bit pricey if you have to buy room and board too, but there is a youth hostel locally and the houses each have a kitchen so you can make your own food if you prefer. I am doing it serious budget-style... i may even commute from my house which is 45 minutes away to save the cost of staying there, but even so, I am very excited for this to come to fruition.

anyway... look in your tribe inbox. :)
